About the Community Food Bank

The Community Food Bank is run by Andy, Lorraine, and their awesome team of volunteers. This community initiative was started because community members saw a need for emergency food resources in our community. Although it is an emergency food bank, Andy and Lorraine wanted to create a hub in the community to create connections and getting to know one-another. By providing the space to do so, volunteers and guests have created friendships and awesome conversation every Sunday.

Not only does the Community Food Bank focus on food and feeding the community, but also running sustainability. Donated food items come from grocery product turn over; originally meant to be disposed of and wasted. It is estimated that almost 50% of Canada’s food produce is to be wasted in one year. By using and distributing this food, the Community Food Bank can prevent food waste while making sure people are fed! 

Each Sunday the Community Food Bank runs from 10:30 AM when doors open until 12:30 PM when distribution ends. From 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM tables and chairs are set up for community members to sit and enjoy light refreshments. The Community Food Bank encourages all guests and community members to, sit, chat, and get to know each other. Often guests and volunteers will have conversations getting to know one another, creating a positive environment for all to feel welcome. At 12:00 PM the food tables are opened, and guests can pick their food items. Volunteers provide boxes to help carry guests' groceries.
