Board Positions
Secretary: This position is open and part of the executive team. We do not have a secretary, but the old secretary is available for training and there is lots of documentation and guidance. Your job is to keep the story of the centre in terms of taking minutes at meetings, helping keep things on track with action, knowing where paper work is (we use SharePoint and Office 365 mainly as its much more secure. Some google calendar and forms) . contact us. Also see a full job description here
Treasurer: This position is open and is part of the executive team. If you already have experience in this area, it may require less than the estimated 10–12 hours per month. There are plenty of examples, how-to guides, and a well-organized repository of monthly activities to support you. The primary responsibilities include maintaining and tracking assets, helping keep finances organized, ensuring proper checks and balances, and supporting the annual audit process. You will likely lead a committee to carry forward last year’s budget, incorporating any anticipated expenses. Since much of the work follows a consistent annual cycle, it is a manageable role.. contact us. Also see a full job description here
Community Liaison: This role used to be “memberships” but selling memberships is a very small part. The focus is on more community participation, working closely with the Communications Team. This is a strategic role centred on building engagement and bringing the community together. We encourage and facilitate programs, events and talks (with their team or a combo of their team and our team) to fulfil our mission, vision, and values. By working with community residents, groups and local businesses, you’ll strengthen the impact of living in Deer Run. This role is evolving. Some initial goals exist, but you’ll help shape the position and develop the job description as you go. Creativity and strong networking skills are valuable assets. Click contact us or come to a board meeting (1st wed of every month except only one in July/August - Date TBD.)
Director at Large: If you want to be more than just a volunteer and you want to vote on the board or are unsure how your skills fit, you can still be on the board. They are called directors at Large and they don't fit the mold of Secretary, Treasurer or Community Liaison. Many who sit in a Director at Large role are quite handy with tools or project management. Please come out to a board meeting and check it out if you are unsure. Anyone is welcome to board meetings (we just ask that you let us know you are coming - click contact us. 1st wed of every month except only one in July/August)
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Communications Team: First, lets get you a full job description (click) and you will see if its one person, not all that can get done - just the essentials. We already have a team of people and more is … more - we can reach our audience better. Communicating to our community is an art in itself. So we need support with visual, textual, left brained, right brained, types of multimedia or physical print when all ways are done - is effective. If you’re interested, click contact us or attend a board meeting (held on the first Wednesday of each month, with one meeting in July/August—date TBD).
Social Events: If you like to put on parties, this is the position for you. We have many events throughout the year needing volunteers. Although we already have some great volunteers, many hands makes light work and thus fun work. We are looking for more creative types and people who like to get things done. You don’t have to be the upfront person, but some love it. All types are needed to carry out excellent events. click contact us
Project Managers: With budding renovations and projects in the DRCA’s future, we are looking for a project manager volunteer to help us! This position is for anyone who may have prior experience or wisdom in project management. Some current renovation projects we have in the works include: replacing the garage, basement renovations, elevator install for accessibility, improving our skating rink, and many more. All these projects need a project manager. Can you take of these projects on? Partial? Can you lead a team or can you be a team member that knows about concrete? click contact us
Construction Handy-Person: Knowing we have work to do is the easy part. Knowing people and good companies who know how to give us a good job at a good price is tricky. We need handy smart and we know it - we just don’t know enough of them. Please let us know if you can help - these are mini project management and advice roles. Experience welcome! click contact us
Please contact the board if you have any questions about the roles.
